  12.                        Compiled Slideshow files

  15. When a user creates a slideshow file for VUIMAGE PLUS(tm), the user can
  16. execute the slideshow by typing:
  17.  
  18.       vuimgp -S sshow
  19.  
  20. where "sshow" is the slideshow file.  However, in some instances, the user
  21. may wish to distribute the slideshow for demo's etc.  Since VUIMAGE PLUS(tm)
  22. is copyrighted material licensed to a single user (or licensed for a network
  23. installation as the case may be) and making copies of VUIMAGE PLUS(tm) is
  24. illegal, the user cannot distribute copies of VUIMAGE PLUS(tm) to display
  25. the slideshow.

  27. This is where "compiled slideshow" files come in.  With a compiled slideshow
  28. file, you create a slideshow file and Offe Enterprises creates a "compiled"
  29. version of that slideshow file for a fee.  The compiled version is a 
  30. single executable file that, when executed, will do the slideshow, pretty 
  31. much the same way VUIMAGE PLUS(tm) did when the slideshow file was specified 
  32. to it using the "-S" parameter.  The difference is that the compiled slideshow
  33. file may be copied and distributed royalty-free.
  34.  
  35. To create a compiled slideshow, create a slideshow file, use 
  36. VUIMAGE PLUS(tm) to test it with.  Make sure it meets the "compilability"
  37. requirements listed below.  Then send the following files to Offe Enterprises
  38. along with the fee:
  39.  
  40.     1) slideshow file,
  41.     2) the VUIMAGE PLUS(tm) configuration file "VUIMGP.CFG",
  42.     3) the images.  Usually the image files are assumed to be in the same
  43.     directory as the executable slideshow file.  If this is not the case,
  44.     and hardcoded pathnames are to be used, use the "-dc" option to store
  45.     the pathname.
  46.     4) the version number of VUIMAGE PLUS(tm) used to test the slideshow file
  47.  
  48. Offe Enterprises will send back the compiled slideshow file, with the images.
  49.  
  50. To be compilable, the slideshow file must meet the following 
  51. "compilability" requirements:
  52.  
  53.     1) All files must be in one file format (GIF, TIFF or PCX)
  54.     2) Only one file should be used with the "-C" parameter (i.e. no wild card
  55.        characters in the filenames) and each file must be on a separate line
  56.     3) The slideshow file should be less than 2000 bytes
  57.     4) No SuperVGA driver should be specified 
  58.

  65.        supplied.  If there are any changes to the images or to the slideshow

  83. Converts a bilevel (black and white) or grayscale TIFF image to a
  84. same or lower resolution bilevel/grayscale image in TIFF or GIF format.

  86. EXAMPLE USES
  87.  
  88.   1.  Convert a scanned image in TIFF format (these are usually
  89.       black and white images that have a large number of 
  90.       horizontal and vertical pixels) to a smaller image
  91.       with grayscales so that the image can be viewed more
  92.       completely on a VGA/EGA screen.  The grayscales compensate
  93.       for the loss of resolution caused when the image is
  94.       reduced to a smaller size.

  96.   2.  Convert a bilevel/grayscale TIFF file to a GIF file.
  97.  
  98.   3.  Reduce the filesize of TIFF files by scaling the image.
  99.  
  100. The program can be executed non-interactively (for example, from a batch file.
  101. A demo version this program is available on many BBSes.

  104. SYNTAX: tbg [options] inputfile outputfile
  105.  
  106. OPTIONS:
  107.  
  108.    -otiff  output file in TIFF format.
  109.  
  110.    -ogif   output file in  GIF format.
  111.  
  112.    -xn  where n=1,2,3,etc.  Reduce the width by this factor.
  113.         Example: -x2 reduces the width to half its value.
  114.  
  115.    -yn  where n=1,2,3,etc.  Reduce the height by this factor.
  116.         Example: -y4 reduces the height to a quarter of its value.
  117.  
  118.    -bn  where n=1 to 8.  Set the number of bits per pixel in the output to n.
  119.         If a lower number is sufficient, the lower number is used (also see the
  120.         -f option).  The maximum possible gray levels in the output is 2 to the
  121.         power of this number.  Example: -b4 sets the # bits/pixel to 4.

  123.    -f   force the number of bits/pixel to the value specified by the -b option
  124.  
  125.    -q   quiet.  Do not display input/output image information
